Looking for a Mindbody alternative?
Mindbody’s consumer marketplace is real demand — 3M+ users, real bookings. It’s also not free. Here’s what it actually costs, and what moving over involves.
What Mindbody does well — say this first
Mindbody’s biggest asset is real: the consumer marketplace app has 3M+ active users and generates roughly 22,000 first-time bookings a monthacross every business listed on it. If new-customer discovery is genuinely your problem, that’s a real channel, and we have no equivalent to offer — worth saying plainly.
It’s also a mature product with 25 years of feature depth and genuine multi-location tooling for operators running more than one site — both areas where Mindbody is ahead of most of the category, us included.
What tends to drive gyms and studios to look elsewhere
The marketplace isn’t free — it’s a commission dressed as a discovery channel
Mindbody charges 20% of a new client’s first purchase, capped at $30, for each client who books through the consumer app — once per client, not on repeat visits. Add payment processing on top and a marketplace booking costs roughly 23.5% all in. That can genuinely pay for itself if discovery is your bottleneck. It is not the free advantage it’s usually described as.
The reviews say value is the weak point
Mindbody sits at 4.0/5 overall but 3.6/5 on value specifically, from roughly 3,000 reviews — that gap between “good product” and “worth what it costs” is the whole story for a lot of studios who look elsewhere.
Pricing is per location, and processing adds up
Mindbody charges per location, and does not publish a processing rate — so the number that decides your total is the one you have to ask for. On $50,000 a month, every percentage point is $6,000 a year. PATO’s equivalent runs around $12,500, and none of it is a cut of your members’ payments.
Nothing talks to your members between visits
Like most platforms in this category, Mindbody’s AI and automation are built for the front desk. There’s no member-facing companion — no nutrition tracking, no AI a member talks to, no gamification.

Are you paying Mindbody to find members, or to keep the ones you have?
Those are two different jobs. Mindbody does the first one — for a price. PATO does the second one, properly, and doesn’t charge a commission to do it.
What we don’t do yet
We don’t have a consumer discovery marketplace, and we’re not going to pretend otherwise — if new-customer discovery through a public booking app is what you actually need, Mindbody does that and we don’t. We also don’t yet match Mindbody’s multi-location tooling for operators running several sites. Both are real gaps, not hedges.
Switching from Mindbody
We take a CSV export of your Mindbody client list, map the columns, remove duplicates, and show you exactly what’s going to land before anything is committed. Most studios are running on PATO the same week — no marketplace listing carries across, so factor that into timing if marketplace discovery has been bringing you real bookings.
FAQ
If new-customer discovery through a public booking app is genuinely your bottleneck, it can be — just don’t file the 20%-per-client fee under “included.” It’s a paid acquisition channel priced as a commission.
A CSV export, a column-mapping and dedup pass, and a review before anything is committed. Most studios are live within a week.
Yes — that discovery channel is specific to Mindbody. If it’s currently bringing you meaningful new bookings, weigh that against what a subscription-plus-commission model is costing you the rest of the time.
Not with the same maturity Mindbody has built over 25 years — a real gap for operators running several sites today.
For a single-location studio processing $50,000/month, PATO runs roughly $12,500/year all in. Mindbody’s total depends on a processing rate they don’t publish — their subscription is A$279/month per location, and every extra percentage point on $50,000/month is another $6,000 a year. Get the rate in writing and do the arithmetic; that gap is the whole comparison.
