Configurable member autonomy
What is configurable member autonomy?
Configurable member autonomy is a setting that decides whether your members can generate their own training and nutrition plans. It’s a switch you control, and it’s the reason one product can serve a 24/7 gym and a coaching-led studio without compromising either.
Why it’s a setting rather than a feature
Because gyms are two different businesses wearing the same name.
In a 24/7 or access-led gym, nobody programmes for members. They’re alone with the equipment, and the reason they quit by month three is that nothing guided them. Autonomy on gives every member a plan.
In a coaching-led gym, programming is the product. It’s what members pay for and what the coaches are there to do. Software that offers to generate plans for those members is quietly competing with the business it’s sold to. Autonomy off — PATO handles admin, tracking and nudging, and never writes a plan.
Why it matters for your gym
Most platforms implicitly pick one model, which means half the market is being sold something that undermines them.
It also changes what a salesperson can honestly say to you. Telling a PT studio owner “our AI writes your members’ programmes” is a lost deal in one sentence. The switch means we don’t have to.
Nothing else about the product changes. Logging, tracking, benchmarks, engagement, rewards and billing work identically either way.
Common questions
- Can I change it later?
- Any time.
- Can I allow workout plans but not meal plans?
- They’re separate settings.
- If it’s off, can members still log workouts?
- Yes. Logging, tracking and history are unaffected — only generation is gated.
